Why playtime with your kid is important

Blanca Cobb highlights the reasons playtime with your kids is important and how to make time for it.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Have you ever noticed the joy on a child's face at the playground? Well, there's a reason for that, and it's not just about the fun! Today is National Take Your Parents to the Playground Day, a reminder that playtime isn't just for kids.

Play is crucial for a child's development. It helps them build strong muscles and bones but goes way beyond the physical. Play is how children learn about the world around them. It sparks their imagination, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

When parents and children play together, their bond is strengthened. When parents get down on the child's level and play with them, it creates a sense of security and trust. It shows the child that their parents are interested in their world and want to share their joy.

If parents neglect playtime, it can have negative consequences. Children who lack play with their parents can experience difficulties with social interaction, emotional regulation, and learning. So, parents need to find small pockets of time to play with their kids.
