'Makes you feel uneasy' | Man reacts to porch pirate snatching package off porch

It seems to be a common occurrence, porch pirates taking iPhones.

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — The porch pirates are at it again, this time in McLeansville. Security camera footage captures someone snatching a package off a porch.

In this case from last week, the thief took an iPhone. WFMY News 2 has previously reported about phone deliveries taken in the Triad.

Security camera footage, provided by, homeowner Avery Artis shows a delivery driver dropping off the package and then taking a picture of it at the base of the porch. Sometime later, someone driving a white car, in a safety vest and mask runs up to the front porch and snatches the package.

The thing is the package didn't belong to anyone who lived at the house. Artis said his wife found the footage last week and was trying to figure out who ordered something.

"She asked me and my oldest son, 'hey were you all expecting a package?' because originally, we thought that the FedEx person dropped it off, the package had the wrong address, and somebody was coming back through to get that package and take it somewhere else because I didn't have a package I knew that was coming, my wife didn't have one and my oldest son didn't have one as well," recalled Artis.

Artis said his brother later texted him letting him know he ordered a phone to Artis' house. He began putting all the pieces together and remembered seeing chatter on social media concerning people stealing iPhones off porches.

The whole experience, leaving the husband and father concerned.

"Definitely the security of my family and the safety of my family. Typically, if somebody steals something they do things late at night or something like that, but just broad daylight when people are home or coming home that definitely makes you feel uneasy," Artis exclaimed.

Artis said his brother is reaching out to the cell phone company to see what can be done.

Triad law enforcement recommend people expecting a package get a trusted neighbor to come by and pick it up, if it's a valuable item, it recommends people set it as a signature drop off to make sure someone is there to take it inside.
