GREENSBORO, N.C. — October is Positive Attitude Month. We’ve heard that it’s important to have a positive attitude. But how can it really help us? Having a positive attitude can change how you feel about yourself and how you feel about life. Your outlook determines your experiences in life. If you have a positive outlook, it’s easier to cope when bad things happen.
You may not realize that a positive attitude can boost your resilience, which is your ability to bounce back from setbacks because you manage stress better and improve your decision-making by having a clearer mindset.
Thinking positive is a different way of thinking. When something happens, then you focus on the positive and not automatically the negative. For example, someone cuts you off in traffic. Instead of getting angry and blowing your horn, you let it slide and think they’re in a rush. Or, if you’re waiting for test results or a call back about a job, you don’t automatically think that a long wait means the news is bad.
