The importance of making others happy and it's limitations

Blanca Cobb explains the benefits of bringing joy to others and how it might not always go the way you thought it would.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Have you ever noticed how a smile seems contagious? Well, get ready to spread some cheer because today is "National I Want You to Be Happy Day!" This day is all about focusing on the happiness of others. But how exactly do we do that?

Happiness is contagious. When you make someone else happy, you also experience a sense of joy and fulfillment. Plus, fostering positive connections with others strengthens our relationships and builds a sense of community. And remember the impact it can have on someone's day. A simple act of kindness can turn someone's mood around and brighten their day.

Remember that you can't control other people's emotions entirely. While we can certainly influence them and contribute to their happiness, ultimately, each person is responsible for their happiness. And sometimes, despite our best efforts, people may not respond positively or be dealing with deeper issues that require professional help. It's essential to be mindful of boundaries and respectful of someone's journey to happiness.

While it's admirable to want to contribute to the happiness of those around us, it's important to recognize that we can't bear the sole responsibility for someone else's happiness. Each person has their own journey and their own internal factors influencing their happiness. Supporting and uplifting others is healthy, but you shouldn't feel guilty if someone else isn't happy. You can offer your love, kindness, and support, but ultimately, each person is responsible for their own well-being.
