GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — When you finally decide to take that live Christmas tree down, we wanted to make sure you knew how to recycle it.

In case you didn't know, Guilford County provides a free service at the Guilford County Farm.

But First, you have to remove all the dressings from the tree — you know the garland, the lights, the ornaments, and all that fun jazz. Any tree over five feet tall has to be cut into segments.

Listed below are a few details about when and how to recycle your live Christmas tree.

Greensboro

  • Trees are collected on your normal trash day.
  • Place the tree at the curb by 7 a.m. and the city will do the rest.
  • Don't forget to cut any trees over five feet tall into manageable pieces.
  • If you live in an apartment or condo, please reach out to your complex manager or your HOA about tree removal options.
  • Do not place trees in a trash or recycling dumpster. State law requires all yard waste, including Christmas trees, to be disposed of separately from other materials.

Gibsonville

Christmas trees are collected and chipped curbside as part of the Town of Gibsonville's regular chipping routes. Again, remove all decorations from the tree, including any nails from the stand, and place them at the curb for pickup. Call (336) 449-4144 with questions.

Guilford County

  • You can drop the trees off at the City's landfill- but fees do apply.
  • You can drop the trees off for FREE at Guilford County Farm at 7315 Howerton Rd. in Gibsonville.
    • They're open from Dec. 26 through Jan. 15.
    • Drop-off hours are Monday through Saturday 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

High Point

Some of the same rules from the city of Greensboro apply to High Point. You have until Jan. 31st to place them at the curb. Call 336-883-3111 for more information.

Jamestown

Similar rules apply to Jamestown. Just place the bare naked tree on the curb. Residents can call town hall at 454-1138 with questions.

Winston-Salem

Those who live in the city limits can put their trees at the curb. All nails from tree stands must be removed along with all tree decorations. The city said it may take several weeks to collect the trees so there are other places to drop off trees:

  • Forsyth County Center Number 2, beside Vienna Volunteer Fire Department
    • 445 Lindsay St., Kernersville, NC 27284.
