WAKE FOREST, N.C. — Julia Murray was only 19 when she had a stroke.
The Wake Forest student and cheerleader was put into the care of the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Stroke Center in 2022.
Now, she's back and she's cheering for a cause.
"A stroke can happen to anyone," Murray said.
On Sunday, Oct. 29, Wake Forest men's basketball hosted a charity exhibition game to benefit the stroke center that treated her. Entry was free to the event, but donations of $20 were encouraged.
The event was also close to the head coach of the men's basketball team, Steve Forbes, whose wife had a stroke over the summer.
"It's really special and full circle. I never thought I'd be cheering in college, let alone getting to cheer for a cause so close to me," said Murray.
If you missed the event, you can give directly to the organization here.
