GREENSBORO, N.C. — September is Hunger Action Month, a nationwide effort to raise awareness about hunger and inspire action.
The fight to combat food insecurity is happening in North Carolina.
Governor Roy Cooper declared September 2024 in North Carolina as "hunger action month". He's calling on people in North Carolina to help end hunger by volunteering in food banks, learning more about hunger in communities and spreading awareness.

Combating food insecurity in the Triad
Greensboro Urban Ministry is working to combat food insecurity in the Triad. They say they serve 200 households on average every day. They say they are low on food and are looking for non-perishable and perishable food items. They also accept cash donations and will buy food for you. Any Greensboro resident is welcome to visit the food pantry. You can visit once every seven days.
Potter's House Community Kitchen is seeing an even higher from the community. They provide hot, nutritious, and well-balanced lunch every day. They're serving 500 to 700 meals per day.

The average cost of a meal in North Carolina is $3.91 according to FeedingAmerica.org. Guilford County has a higher average at $4.18.
Summer 2025 SUN bucks application
SUN bucks helps make sure students are fed during the summer. It gives grocery-buying benefits to families with school-aged children. The benefits are issues of debit-like cards that families can use to buy nutritious foods for kids during the summer.
Greater Greensboro Crop Hunger Walk
Registration is underway to take part in the Crop Hunger Walk. It raised money for the church world service and is used to help fight hunger all around the world. The walk is on October 6 at 2:30 p.m. It'll be held at Barber Park.
