Post-Valentine's Day Blues? How to repair your relationship

Just because your Valentine's Day may have been rocky it doesn't define your love story with your significant other.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Did your Valentine's Day turn into a romantic fumble instead of a sweet soiree? Don't fret, lovebirds, because even the best relationships hit bumps, and a lackluster holiday doesn't define your entire love story.

Some people view Valentine's Day as the ultimate day to express love. If you're having problems in your relationship on the day the world celebrates love, then it makes you reflect on what you don't have. When you see other couples celebrating and seemingly happy, it's natural to want the same for yourself.

If you want to fix your relationship, it's time to figure out what's happening between you. Before talking to your partner, take an inventory of what you want to see different in your relationship. And figure out if there's something you could be doing differently or better. For example, let's say you know it bothers your partner that you're constantly on your phone. Think about why putting your phone away and giving your partner your full attention can benefit your relationship.

Talk to your partner after reflecting on what you can do differently to strengthen your connection. Make these changes and see what impact they have. Then, talk to your partner. Remember to share your feelings, what you've noticed, what you'd like to see differently, and how you think these changes will strengthen your bond. Be sure to allow your partner to share their perspective and feelings as well.
