How to handle female friendship on National Girlfriend's Day

Today is National Girlfriend's Day. An expert shares how to overcome challenges in female friendships.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — It's National Girlfriends Day. Female friendships are often considered important to overall well-being. Strong female friendships provide emotional support, a sense of belonging, and a safe space for women to express themselves without judgment. This can lead to increased self-esteem, reduced stress, and better-coping mechanisms.

As much as female friendships fill the soul, there are common challenges women can face in keeping these friendships. Life transitions, differing priorities, moving, and jealousy can strain friendships. It's important to know that these challenges are normal and can be overcome with open communication and understanding.

If you want stronger friendships, then it's important to prioritize quality time. When you're talking, you're really listening to each other to understand their point of view. Active listening, empathy, and mutual support are the secret sauce to conversations. It's also crucial to set realistic expectations and boundaries within the friendship.
