Deputies mourn the death of retired K-9 officer

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — The Alamance County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of an important member of the force.

Grim, a 13-year-old retired K-9 Officer, died on Monday, July 1.

Grim was on the force from May 2012 until his retirement in 2021.

The Malinois-Shepherd mix was with his partner and handler, Sgt. Mike Apple, and his family from retirement until his passing.

Take a look at everything Grim accomplished while serving Alamance County:

  • 18 persons were located (missing persons and suspects)
  • 1.9 million dollars in US currency seized
  • 4 wanted person apprehensions
  • 150 kilos of Cocaine seized
  • 65 kilos of Methamphetamine seized
  • 180 grams of Heroin seized
  • 5 kilos of Marijuana seized
  • 294 Firearms seized

Sheriff Terry Johnson said, “Grim was one of the best K-9 Officers we’ve ever had. He will be sorely missed by all of us.”
