GREENSBORO, N.C. — It's time for 'My 2 Cents.'
Let's be honest, we haven't had a lot to look forward to during this pandemic. It seems like everything has been canceled. Graduations, weddings, sports- you name it, they've been called off.
So it's nice when we have something to be excited about - no matter how small it may seem.
Like when your favorite artist announces a surprise album. Or when you make plans to treat yourself to an amazing take out meal. Or maybe just setting aside some time to do nothing.
It's the eyes on the prize mentality. When we don't have anything up ahead to motivate us, it's hard to keep going.
I try to make sure I always have something on the horizon and that's been more difficult during the coronavirus craziness. I had to cancel my upcoming vacation. It's harder to make plans with family and friends because you want to be safe. Traveling is still not a great option. Even going out to eat is more difficult. Now, instead of having big things to look forward to, I have to set my sights on the smaller, simpler joys in life.
A really good living room TV night complete with sugary snacks. Actually enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning. Sitting on the couch with a warm blanket and some cheesy rom-com on in the background. Having great conversations with people I care about, even if they are over the phone.
It's all about perspective. You have the power to decide between getting down over all of the things you're missing or getting excited over all of the things you still have.
