Searches for anxiety symptoms rise during pandemic, it's time to talk about mental health: My 2 Cents

A new study in the Journal of the American Medical Association says Google searches for anxiety symptoms from mid-March to mid-May were the highest they've been.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — It's time for 'My 2 Cents.'

I was texting a friend yesterday and said, 'Can you imagine how much better we will all feel when we don't have to worry about this virus?'

I think it's important to talk about mental health all the time but especially right now. From the start of this thing experts have said not to disregard how we are feeling and that mental health and physical health go hand and hand.

A new study in the Journal of the American Medical Association says Google searches for anxiety symptoms from mid-March to mid-May were the highest they've been in the history of Google. Searches for anxiety and panic attacks surged in response to major news events - like on March 16th when social distancing guidelines were put in place nationally and again on the 29th when those guidelines were extended.

So let me just say this: no matter how you feel right now, it's justified. Take care of yourself. There are resources out there to help you cope with any stress you may be feeling. Don't hesitate to use them.

You've heard everyone say wear a mask, wash your hands and social distance until they're blue in the face. Those things are so important in taking care of our physical health right now. But there's another side to taking care of your health that's worth just as much attention.
