Pallet homes in Greensboro to open back up ahead of colder months

The City of Greensboro launched the program last year as a place for homeless people to go during the colder months.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Not everyone is lucky enough to have a place to lay their head at night during the winter months.

So, a non-profit is gearing up to run the pallet homes program in Greensboro again this year.

The temporary shelters give a warm place for the homeless people in the city to stay during the colder months.

The city launched the program in 2022.

The small structures go back up Wednesday at Pomona Park.

Earlier this year, Mayor Nancy Vaughan shared the success of the temporary pallet home program in Greensboro after 60 temporary homes were built at the park.

"They worked really well. We were able to transition 57 people out of the pallet shelters into long-term housing," Mayor Vaughan shared.

Each pallet home has two beds and is heated. There's also overnight security to help with safety in the area.
