GREENSBORO, N.C. — Oh Goodness Bakery owner, Jesse Wesselink, says their name is an appropriate description of how they're feeling.
"It’s the, 'Oh Goodness,' you know," he said. "That’s not what we really meant by the name but yeah that was our reaction we were in a little bit of shock."
It took Jesse and his wife Shayna three days to bake everything for their grand opening on September 29th and only four hours to sell out of everything.
"It’s a great problem to have but we got some challenges ahead of us now now," Wesselink said.
Oh Goodness makes Keto-friendly and gluten free goodies. The couple decided to open up the shop after Shayna's treats became so popular. An avid baker, she didn't want to give up her love for being in the kitchen or her love of sweets when the couple started doing the Keto diet.
Of course, opening up a new business in the midst of a pandemic-induced economic downfall brought some reservations.
"There were a lot of things to be concerned about, in addition to the normal starting of a business," Wesselink said. "But obviously the demand is the huge question. For any business start up, and to be to have that question answered in a pretty significant way yesterday, it’s definitely a relief so it gives us a sense of confidence."
The bakery is making some changes to keep up with that demand. They'll only open twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and launched an online ordering system to make sure customers get what they want. They're only listing online what they know they'll be able to bake between now and the weekend. Wesselink said they sold out of one item online within an hour.
"The orders are rolling in and we’re already starting to sell out and as we sell out then you know you won’t be able to order that item again until after we reset the inventory numbers after Saturday," he said.
Oh Goodness Bakery is on South Elm Street in Greensboro. You can learn more and order online through their Facebook page.
