'Jesus saves from sin.' Gospel Music Workshop of America in Greensboro

This year's theme is Faith, Family, and Fellowship.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — There is a resounding "Amen!" echoing from the heart of the Triad, where the Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA) has brought its highly-anticipated national conference to Greensboro for the first time in its 56-year history.

"We are enjoying our time in Greensboro. I’ve been here since Thursday. The food is great. The people are great – inviting, welcoming. It’s a great source of inspiration. We’re glad to be here. It’s our first time here in Greensboro," said GMWA executive board member Bishop Kevin Bond, in town from Brooklyn, NY.

The conference began July 9 and is in town until July 14, 2023, with most activities happening at the Koury Convention Center.

Organizers say each day is jammed-packed with activities, starting with acclaimed Daily Bread speakers.

"'Man shall not live by bread, alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God {Matthew 4:4}," preached Bond.

In the evenings, gospel artists and aficionados from around the world can attend the nightly musicals to hear the best choirs minister in song.

Bond said he's excited about the event's closing concert -- a free performance featuring John P. Kee and Risen.

Tickets are available, and some of the events -- like the cotillion -- require registration

As for the timing of the event, on the heels of the pandemic, Bond said people are finding they need God now more than ever.

"We’re back in the brick and mortar, so we’re inviting everyone to come where the Gospel, the good news, the glad tidings that Jesus saves from sin. No matter who you are, what you are, how you’re feeling, you don’t have to be at the top of the bottom. You can be lonely, you can be depressed, come to the Gospel Music Workshop of America, where everybody is somebody," he said.
