Broadway Star Shares Why You Should See "Beautiful" When It Plays At The Tanger Center

Elise Vannerson told WFMY News 2 audiences will be moved by the story.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts inaugural Broadway season is just under 9 months away.

Elise Vannerson who's held multiple roles in the touring of "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical" stopped by the Triad to perform two numbers from the show Wednesday. She also talked with WFMY News 2 about what makes the show special.

The musical tells the true story of the singer-songwriter's rise to stardom.

"Beautiful itself is just about overcoming adversity and just like the rise of the female voice and really discovering who you are." Vannerson said. "It's just a beautiful way to witness someone that is discovering their full potential and how them realizing that changes the world."

It follows her life from her early days growing up in Brooklyn selling her first song as a young teen.

"So it’s cool to see that juxtaposition of you know boys and being a 16-year-old and everything is new and exciting, but she’s like I’m gonna sell you my song. Like she know she’s good at that," Vannerson said.

The show dives into her time as part of the hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, and how she came into her own as a solo artist.

You'll groove to familiar songs while learning how she become a true voice of her generation.

"Audiences just love it time and time again. So even if you're just coming to because you love Carole King songs, you were just going to be moved by the story," Vannerson said.  "It's just a beautiful way to spend an evening."
