SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Erin and Ean Goldberg were married on Nov. 11, but she was scheming a prank weeks prior to the big day.
The bride called her wedding photographer and told her she wanted to do a fake “first look” in an outfit she often wears to bed: an oversized cat t-shirt and old, raggedy sweatpants -- not her wedding dress.
“As soon as she told me about it, I knew we had to make room for it in the timeline because his reaction alone would be totally worth it,” local photographer Molly McElenney said.
McElenney captured the hilarious moment between the couple. She always recommends a first look, she said, because it takes some stress of the day away and is a private and quiet moment the couple can remember forever. She said she believes this first look showed how hysterical the two lovebirds are.
As a wedding photographer, McElenney, has helped plan many first looks, but never one like this.
“I usually set up first looks where the bride and groom are standing a few feet a part. I have the bride say something to the groom to have him turn around and see her in all her glory!" McElenney said. "Erin agreed that that’s how she wanted to do it, that way Ean could take in the whole outfit from the cat shirt to the extremely stylish Walmart walking slippers.”
And the groom’s face really does say it all.
“I thought it would be really funny for Ean to turn around, expecting this huge moment of me looking gorgeous in my dress with my makeup and hair done, only to turn around and see me in one of my typically embarrassing casual outfits,” Erin told Yahoo Lifestyle.
McElenney said once Ean turned around, they were all laughing but she and Erin made sure he didn’t suspect anything.
“There was definitely nervous laughter from everyone... We made it as serious as possible until the very last second so I really don't think he caught on at all,” McElenney said.
