Greensboro Transit Authority wraps bus in honor of Black soldiers who fought in the Revolutionary War

The Patriots Bus runs along Route 8, near the site of the 1781 Battle of Guilford Court House site.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — In 1776, delegates representing our nation's first colonies signed the Declaration of Independence.

Yet, the waves of freedom didn't roll in overnight.

Instead, several years went by before the British officially retreated with one of the final battles of the Revolutionary War happening right here in the Triad.

Among the ranks were 33 Black men who fought in the Battle of the Guilford Courthouse in 1781.

This week, the Greensboro community honored their contributions by wrapping a city bus in their honor.

On one side of the bus, you can see the names of the men etched into a design of the Guilford Courthouse Flag.
