Vault Visit | Winston-Salem police shares new body-worn cameras

GREENSBORO, N.C. — This year... WFMY News 2 turns 75! So to celebrate... We're opening the WFMY News 2 vault.

On Sept. 10, 2014, the Winston-Salem Police Department showed the media their new body-worn cameras

Thirty-five officers already wore them but an additional 90 officers could wear the new cameras.

The devices could be worn on their sunglasses or shirt collars, or they could be mounted on their shoulder.

The 95 cameras and the secure network to store the video cost about $660-thousand dollars.

The process to view the footage includes a formal request which will be reviewed by an attorney and the chief of police's office.

Otherwise only supervising officers have regular access to the recordings.
