Vault Visit: Last look at 'old' Irving Park Elementary School in Greensboro

On Jan. 23, 1969, WFMY News 2 took a last look inside the original Irving Park Elementary School.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — To celebrate WFMY News 2 turning 75 this year, we are opening the WFMY News 2 Vault.

On Jan. 23, 1969, our news team took a last look inside the original Irving Park Elementary. The school was established on West Lee Street in 1923.

In 1926, it moved to Sunset Drive.

It consisted of three classrooms on each side of the auditorium. But, over 46 years, the area grew. They added new classrooms and additions to the building.

Officials condemned this original building in 1968 and it stood empty until it was demolished in 1969.

Just this fall, Irving Park celebrated 100 years in the Greensboro Community and they're looking forward to many more.
