Vault Visit | Tornadoes hit the Triad in 2008

On May 8, 2008, the Triad and many parts of the southeast were impacted by extremely strong storms.

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — On May 8, 2008, the Triad and many parts of the southeast were impacted by extremely strong storms.

Severe weather rolled in during the late evening hours.

The first storm was a tornado that touched down in Davie County and then moved into Clemmons. That one storm produced two tornadoes.

In Clemmons, the tornado was found to be an E-F three with winds estimated at 140 miles per hour. It destroyed three homes and damaged 30 other buildings. Two people were injured, but amazingly there were no deaths.

A short time later, a tornado hit in Guilford County near the Piedmont-Triad Farmer's Market.

One person died as a result of that E-F two tornado.
