On April 9, 1990, people were talking about turtles... Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael were all the rage!
The movie was released on March 30, 1990, and quickly took off. From the theaters to small screens to toy stores, turtles were everywhere you looked.
The Hollywood Reporter says the movie broke the record for the highest-grossing independent film of all time. It went on to be one of the top 10 highest-grossing films of 1990.
