GREENSBORO, N.C. — WFMY News 2 is turning 75 this year and to celebrate, we are opening the News 2 Vault.
On this day in 2010, the state of North Carolina experienced a tornado outbreak.
An E-F Three tornado tore through High Point and two E-F One tornadoes touched down in Davidson County.
The High Point Tornado reached speeds of 138 miles per hour. It was on the ground for 5 miles and destroyed around 600 buildings.
In one neighborhood the tornado blew most of the second story off.
"When the garage collapsed, all the windows busted that's when the top of the house shifted," a homeowner told WFMY News 2.
Despite all the damage, only a handful of people were injured. Thankfully, no one died.
