BURLINGTON, N.C. — To celebrate WFMY News 2 turning 75, we are opening the News 2 Vault.
On Feb. 19, 1992, we introduced our viewers to an incredible young man named Peedie.
Peedie Snipes was a 14-year-old boy from Burlington. He was born with Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome. The disorder causes children to age rapidly.
So, while Peedie was only 14 years old, he had the body of an old man. It didn't stop him from making those around him laugh.
He also got to travel to Atlanta for a closed-door meeting with basketball legend Michael Jordan. He had courtside seats to see the Bulls beat the Hawks that night.
Sadly, Peedie passed away the following month after having triple bypass surgery to repair his weakened heart.
