GREENSBORO, N.C. — WFMY News 2 is turning 75 this year and to celebrate we are opening the News 2 Vault.

On February 28, 2014, we talked to a gold medalist!

2008 Olympic all-around gold medalist Nastia Liukin was in Greensboro for a gymnastics event named in her honor.

The 'Nastia Liukin Cup' was part of the Greensboro Gymnastics Invitational. That was the largest gymnastics event to come to the Carolinas.

Liukin was not a competing gymnast but was preparing for a new role as host.

"Being on the other side of things now, it's definitely a lot less stressful, but I do miss being out there and competing and the performance aspect of it," Liukin said.

The invitational brought more than 20,000 people to the Triad with an economic impact of almost a million dollars.
