Vault Visit | Celebrating the life of Woody Durham

People gathered at the Smith Center to share their memories of the man known as the voice of the Tar Heels.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — WFMY News 2 is turning 75 this year and to celebrate, we are opening the News 2 Vault. 

On April 8, 2018, people gathered in Chapel Hill to say goodbye to a sports legend and WFMY family member. 

Woody Durham passed away in March 2018, but his celebration of life happened on April 8. People gathered at the Smith Center to share their memories of the man known as the voice of the Tar Heels. 

Durham called more than 18,000 Carolina games, including 23 football bowl games, 13 men's basketball final fours, and 6 national championship games. 

He also worked as the WFMY News 2 sports director for 14 years in the 1960s and 70s. 

In 2022, UNC named its media and communications center after Woody Durham.
