Vault Visit | 2020 ACC tournament stopped due to COVID-19

March 12, 2020, is a day that many remember as the start of things getting serious around COVID-19.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — To celebrate WFMY News 2 turning 75, we are opening the News 2 Vault.

March 12, 2020, is a day that many remember as the start of things getting serious around COVID-19.

That's the day the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) canceled the men's basketball tournament due to COVID-19 concerns. Teams had completed two rounds of play at the Greensboro Coliseum.

The tournament was entering the third day when conference officials made the announcement. Of course, fans were confused and upset as they had to cancel their plans.

Florida State entered as the number one seed and the conference said the Seminoles would represent the league as the ACC champion. But that wouldn't happen as the NCAA decided to also cancel that year's tournament.
