WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — This year WFMY News 2 turned 75! So to celebrate, we're opening the WFMY News 2 vault.
We're going back to 2019, when officials announced a big change for the Triad.
After months of conversation and debate, city officials voted to rename the fair.
What was once known as the Dixie Classic Fair became the Carolina Classic Fair.
Residents requested the name change because they said the name dixie was divisive and a reflection of segregated times.
The new name passed with a six to two vote.
The city estimated it would cost $98,000 to replace signage and branding.
