Vault Visit | Stuart Scott dies after cancer battle

On January 4, 2015, sports broadcasting icon Stuart Scott passes away at 49.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — This year, WFMY News 2 Turns 75, and to celebrate we're opening the WFMY News 2 Vault. 

We're showing a film clip or video every day this year and Thursday's memory honors some you might know well. 

On this day in 2015, Sports Broadcasting icon Stuart Scott passed away. 

Scott graduated from Reynolds High School and attended UNC Chapel Hill. He joined ESPN in 1993 and delivered some of the most memorable lines in sports history. 

He was diagnosed with cancer in 2007. He battled it into remission and kept anchoring through his exhaustive treatments. 

That toughness and determination attracted admirers across the country. 

Sadly, the cancer returned. He was 49 years old when he died.
