Vault Visit | Rosa Parks visits Woolworth’s

Rosa Parks visited the Woolworth’s site alongside Jibreel Khazan-one of the Greensboro Four.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — This year WFMY News 2 turns 75!

So to celebrate, we're opening the News 2 vault.

On this day in history a civil rights pioneer visited what is now Greensboro's sit-in museum.

Rosa Parks visited the Woolworth’s site alongside Jibreel Khazan.

Khazan is one of the Greensboro Four who staged a sit-in at Woolworth’s lunch counter on Feb. 1, 1960.

Woolworth's was not the museum it is today.

Parks visited ahead of the sit-in's 35th anniversary and helped raise funds to build the museum.

"I remember the serious time and hard times we had in the past.. and like to look to the future and appreciate the present that we've come this far... and look to the future that we will even go further," Parks said.

The following week, Parks was the first recipient of the Alston-Jones International Civil and Human Rights Award at the museum's first scholarship gala.
