Vault Visit | King Cotton Hotel furnishing sale

GREENSBORO, N.C. — In a few days, WFMY News 2 will be 75 and to celebrate, we are opening the News 2 Vault.

On August 14, 1971, we caught up with people who had the opportunity to own a piece of history.

The King Cotton Hotel was a downtown Greensboro landmark. Built in 1927, it stood 13 stories tall at the intersection of Davie and Market streets.

But it had closed and was scheduled to be demolished. So, all of the hotel's furnishings were up for sale. Items included furniture, kitchenware, mirrors, and more.

If you're wondering what took the hotel's place, the News and Record building, which was just demolished earlier this year.
