STONEVILLE, N.C. — WFMY News 2 turns 75 this year and to celebrate, we're opening the News 2 Vault.
Every day this year, we're sharing a film clip or video from WFMY News 2's past.
Today's vault visit unveils some neighborhood drama from Stoneville.
Ms. Wilson said they found Dusty in another yard after running away because of fireworks. But as they picked him up, the homeowner, Ms. Evans, said they were stealing her dog, 'Ol Red'!
"She went to the police and took out a warrant for larceny of a dog, which we went to court over this and it was dismissed," Ms. Evans said.
But things didn't stop there! Evans then sued Wilson for possession of the dog.
A magistrate had them take the dog to the vet because Evans claimed 'Ol Red had eye damage.
Despite no evidence of eye damage, the judge gave the dog to Evans.
"Then, I appealed, and we went before Judge Peter McHue and he awarded me the dog," Evans said.
In the end, Dusty went home with the Wilsons but the battle cost both families several hundred dollars in court.
