People on the Carolina coast were starting to feel the effects of Hurricane Arthur.

NORTH CAROLINA, USA — To celebrate WFMY News 2 turning 75, we are opening the News 2 Vault.

On July 3, 2014, people on the Carolina coast were starting to feel the effects of Hurricane Arthur.

The storm had strengthened into a hurricane the morning of the third as it churned off the Georgia coast. It continued north and picked up strength. It reached the Carolina coast by the end of the day.

It was a category two with 100-mile-per-hour winds as it made landfall on Shackleford Banks. Flooding was reported in Hatteras and Manteo as were widespread power outages along the coast.

Arthur was the earliest known hurricane to hit North Carolina.
