Vault Visit | High Point police officer fired over fake money

On July 1, 1975, people in the High Point Police Department were talking about some funny money.

HIGH POINT, N.C. — WFMY News 2 turns 75 this year and to celebrate we are opening the News 2 Vault.

On July 1, 1975, people in the High Point Police Department talked about some funny money.

The High Point Police Chief fired one of their officers after his curiosity led to fraud. The former sergeant said he put a dollar bill in a copy machine, then admitted to putting the fake dollar and a real one in a change machine.

The police chief fired the sergeant saying the public expects a high degree of conduct from a police officer.

A civil service commission declined his request to get his job back.
