Vault Visit | 'Hege's Hog' sold at auction

The hogs sold for $19,000 each and the money went back to the county.

DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — WFMY News 2 is turning 75 this year and we are opening the News 2 Vault.

On June 7, 1999, Former Davidson County Sheriff Gerald Hege bought two Harley-Davidsons for the department. But the county attorney determined he bought them improperly and didn't get commissioner approval.

So, the county held a public auction to sell them.

The hogs sold for $19,000 each. The money went back to the county.
