Vault Visit | Greensboro Hornets

The team's owner, Steve Bryant, was in talks to take on investors or sell the team.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — This year WFMY News 2 turns 75!  So to celebrate, we're opening the WFMY News 2 vault.

September 9, 1991 WFMY was talking about the Hornets.

Not the Charlotte Hornets, the Greensboro Hornets baseball team.

The team had been in Greensboro for 13 years at that point.

The team's owner, Steve Bryant, was in talks to take on investors or sell the team.

“I just think we're not going to get taken seriously until there's local people involved.”

Bryant was from Raleigh.

Some questioned his motives for owning a team in Greensboro.

Bryant said the team would flourish if they replaced War Memorial Stadium.

It was the oldest active stadium at the time, but the real sticking point was his three million dollar asking price.

Bryant eventually sold the Hornets to a team of investors in 1993.
