Vault Visit | Greensboro college students keep the peace after 1968 DNC protests

September 23, 1968, WFMY News 2 and the nation were talking about peace on college campuses.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — This year WFMY News 2 turned 75!  So to celebrate, we're opening the WFMY News 2 vault.

September 23, 1968, WFMY News 2 and the nation were talking about peace on college campuses.

Days before protesters clashed with police during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, and spring demonstrations occurred at Columbia University and the University of Illinois.

So, WFMY spoke with students at UNCG and NC A&T about how they felt they could have their voices heard.

“I think demonstrations, not necessarily violent, to show them we're concerned, we're not lackadaisical, like we don't care what's going on and we're concerned, that we're aware of the situations in the world today and we want to take part in it,” one student said.

There were no major protests on their campus in 1968.
