GREENSBORO, N.C. — This year WFMY News 2 turns 75!  So to celebrate, we're opening the WFMY News 2 vault.

July 11, 2018, there was a new face in the Greensboro Police Department and it was a bit furry!

Greensboro police introduced K-9 officer Hero!

Hero was a 12-week-old Australian labradoodle training to be a therapy dog.

He served as the mascot and ambassador for a pilot program called Students Overcoming Situations or SOS.

The program was launched to help build relationships with children and police officers.

We checked with GPD, Hero and Mia have retired.

The department's current therapy dog is named Porter!

Porter and his handler Steve now lead the SOS program.
