Vault Visit | Family dies in tragic plane crash

The small private plane crashed in a swampy area off Lake Brandt Road.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — This year WFMY News 2 turned 75!  So to celebrate, we're opening the WFMY News 2 vault.

On October 25, 2002, a plane crash rocked a North Greensboro neighborhood.

The small private plane crashed in a swampy area off Lake Brandt Road around 2 p.m.

Crews used a crane and shovels to get through the mud and water to the wreckage.

Authorities identified the aircraft belonging to a Florida company.

Recovery crews found the bodies of Dr. Alberto Duboy, his wife, Karen, and their eight-year-old son, Matthew, in the wreckage.

The family was on their way to Winston-Salem to visit their oldest son at Wake Forest.

The FAA investigation said Alberto Duboy got disoriented due to low cloud ceilings and fog, and lost control.
