In today's vault visit, a historic moment happened in 2003.

NORTH CAROLINA, USA — This year... WFMY News 2 turns 75! So, to celebrate, we're opening the WFMY News 2 vault.

Every day this year, we'll show you a film clip or video from WFMY News 2's past.

In today's vault visit, a historic moment happened in 2003. Elizabeth Dole was sworn in as US senator, representing North Carolina.

She was North Carolina's first female senator.

"I was thinking of my mother who is hospitalized right now, but she's coming along well, and I hope had a chance to see me getting sworn in," said Dole.

Before becoming senator, she had quite the career! As she raised a family with her husband Senator Bob Dole, she served as U.S. Secretary of Transportation and U.S. Secretary of Labor.

In those roles, she became the first woman to serve in two different cabinet positions for two different presidents.

She also served as president of the Red Cross.

She still lives in Washington, D.C., and is active with the Elizabeth Dole Foundation.
