Vault Visit: Consumer-Rama in 1972 had trash compactors, can openers, and iron-on patches

Take a look at all the things consumers were buying in 1972.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — This year, WFMY News 2 turns 75. To celebrate, we're opening the News 2 Vault.

Today, we're taking it back to April 5, 1972 -- when the Benton Convention Center hosted Consumer-Rama!

The event let members of the public see some of the newest items on the market without pressure from sales people.

North Carolina attorney general Robert Morgan said the goal was to protect consumers.

"In this day of packaging and merchandising, you really have to be informed to keep from being deceived or misled in the marketplace," Morgan said.

Some of the items being demonstrated included trash compactors, can openers, and iron-on patches.
