Vault Visit | Theft leads to tow yard fire

The fire started when criminals were stealing catalytic converters.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — This year... WFMY News 2 turns 75! So to celebrate... We're opening the WFMY News 2 vault.

Today, we're only going back one year when a catalytic converter theft led to a High Point tow yard fire.

The damage was extensive. Cars were still smoking on July 23rd, 2023.

The Arski Towing owner told WFMY News 2 the fire started when criminals were stealing catalytic converters.

She said the tool they used sparked – causing the fire.

Getting onto the lot and the hot temperatures made the fire challenging for firefighters.

They got it under control after the flames spread to several cars.
