GREENSBORO, N.C. — This year is WFMY News 2’s 75th anniversary, and it’s time to open the WFMY News 2 Vault and share some stories from the past.
April 15, 2018, was a day many East Greensboro residents won’t forget. It’s the day an EF-2 tornado tore through Guilford and Rockingham Counties.
The tornado destroyed dozens of homes and businesses and three elementary schools.
Governor Roy Cooper visited the day after to see the damage with Mayor Nancy Vaughan and other city leaders.
One enduring memory was how our community rallied around the victims.
People donated food, clothes, supplies, and more to help people in the days and weeks following the tornado.
