Vault Visit | Radar detector ad causes controversy

The Better Business Bureau reacted to the ad, saying it was a blatant encouragement for people to break the law.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — This year... WFMY News 2 turns 75! So to celebrate... We're opening the WFMY News 2 vault

On May 12, 1972, a newspaper ad started causing some controversy!

It was an ad for the "Speed Minder."

It was a radar detector being sold by Ken Bouche -- a local businessman.

The Better Business Bureau reacted to the ad, saying it was a blatant encouragement for people to break the law.

Bouche disagreed.

"I find just the presence of the unit in the car does give me a better awareness of how fast I'm traveling and help me stay within the speed limit," said Bouche.

WFMY News 2 also spoke with local police who said the radar detector would not impact the device they used to determine vehicle speeds.
