Vault Visit | North Carolina addresses needs in special education

In 1968, one of the topics of back-to-school conversation was special education.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — On Sunday, Aug. 18, WFMY News 2 turns 75! So to celebrate... We're opening the WFMY News 2 vault.

August is always back-to-school time.

And in 1968... One of the topics of back-to-school conversation was special education.

WFMY News 2 spoke with State Mental Health Association President H.G. McClean.

He said the state legislature needed to approve more money for special education statewide.

He said the money would help add classes and train teachers.

"Teachers must be trained in this field of helping those who need help the most," said McLean.

McClean also mentioned the importance of making sure special education class sizes were manageable.
