GREENSBORO, N.C. — This year... WFMY News 2 turns 75! So to celebrate... We're opening the WFMY News 2 vault.
On August 10, 2021, Guilford County commissioners voted to put a new mask mandate in effect.
They made the decision after seeing after an increase in cases of the more transmissible delta variant.
So starting that Friday evening, people were required to wear face coverings indoors in all businesses, establishments and public places in the county.
There were some exceptions -- like if people were actively eating or drinking, under the age of five or had a medical condition.
The mandate was expected to last until the county's percent positivity rate dropped under 5 percent, or - if and when the county's vaccination rate reached 70 percent.
They lifted the mandate in November, three months later.
