GREENSBORO, N.C. — In 2024, WFMY News 2 turns 75! It's our diamond anniversary! As we celebrate our diamond year, we want to take time to highlight diamonds in our community. We know there are people all over the Triad who make their communities shine! WFMY News 2 asked members of the public to nominate their diamonds and we continue to receive stellar nominations. But June's winner stood out from the rest. June's Community Diamond is Angie Wall.
THE NOMINATION
She rounds up volunteers every month to help distribute fresh fruits and vegetables to low income families, also organized outdoor movies for the kids in the community several times during the summer. She is also a pastor at her church. Plus she's always getting people to sign cards for others who are ill, or suffered a loss. She's always thinking of others. - DOROTHY PERRETT
ABOUT MS. ANGIE
Angie Wall has been a minister for 42 years. She says she's always had a heart for helping people. One of the ways she serves others, is making sure they're fed -- for free. Since 2017, on the third Thursday of every month, she leads the set up of a mobile food market. "We're in an area where a lot of the seniors are not mobile or they don't have cars. So we bring the resources to them," Wall said. Another volunteer said they see a high need because many of the seniors recently experienced rent increases -- which impacted their ability to buy food and basic necessities.
Wall said she's happy to be able to make sure others can take care of themselves. "When people come to get food here, it's not a hand out. It's a hand up." Wall said she's sad to think that families might go hunry if not for this mobile market. "It would break my heart to know they didn't have what they need. We might not have everything they need, but we can give something to keep them from being hungry and I love that." At the end of the day, Wall gets fulfillment knowing she's making a difference for others. "If I see joy on somebody's face and I've helped them, they have helped me," she said.
Wall works with Safer City Greensboro. It's a city-wide effort to address the underlying issues that contribute to violent crime. To be a part of the Safer City initiative, contact the city's Office of Community Engagement at (336)373-2636 or send an email to communityengagement@greensboro-nc.gov.
For winning the June Community Diamond, Wall received:

-$75 Visa gift card
