On this day... Joe Dudley Sr. received the Horatio Alger Award.
It's an award given to exceptional leaders who overcome adversity to achieve greatness.
Dudley and his wife, Dr.Eunice Dudley, founded Dudley Beauty Corporation.
They started selling beauty products right here in Greensboro... And expanded to beauty schools and salons.
At one time... It was one of the largest haircare companies in the country.
Joe Dudley died in February.
He was 86 years old.
