GREENSBORO, N.C. — This month, WFMY News 2 turns 75!  So to celebrate, we're opening the WFMY News 2 vault.

Aug. 3, 2001, WFMY News 2 shared video of the demolition of a once-popular movie theater.

The Janus Theater opened in 1968 on Northwood Street in Greensboro.

At the time, it was one of the only two-screen theaters between Washington and Atlanta.

It eventually expanded to eight screens.

"We used to live within walking distance of the theater... so we could actually walk to movies here and we liked it because a small, intimate theater, cozy. The Janus would play some quite neat movies that main stream theaters wouldn't carry. So that's what made it an impressive part for the community."

The theater closed in June 2007 and sat empty for 14 months before its demolition.

It was originally going to be condominiums and shops.

It's now the site of a First Citizen's Bank.
