July 12, 1996... The coast was dealing with wind and rain from Hurricane Bertha.
The storm came ashore between Wrightsville and Topsail Beach as a Category 2 hurricane.
Many houses sustained damage... Not only from wind... But also due to erosion.
It left thousands without power for several days up and down the East Coast.
Two people in our state died as a result of Hurricane Bertha.
